A small, hands-on car rental service in Addis Ababa built around one idea: renting a car in Ethiopia should be as simple and predictable as it is anywhere else.
Why we started
Anyone who has tried to rent a car in Addis Ababa knows the pattern: a price quoted on the phone that changes at pickup, a car that looks nothing like the photo, and no clear answer about deposits, fuel or what happens if something goes wrong. Diaspora visitors coming home for a few weeks, tourists on their first trip to Ethiopia, and NGO teams who need reliable transport all run into the same friction.
A1 Car Rental Service was created to remove that friction. We publish our prices in US dollars and Ethiopian birr, we put the rental conditions in writing before you book, and we hand over every car clean, inspected and fuelled as agreed.
How we work
Clear pricing
Daily, weekly and monthly rates are quoted upfront in USD and birr. No surprises at pickup.
Two ways to rent
Self-drive with a passport copy and refundable deposit, or with one of our professional drivers and no deposit at all.
We come to you
Pickup at our location in Kera, or delivery to your hotel, home or Bole International Airport, 24 hours a day.
Our fleet
We keep a compact, well-maintained fleet rather than a large, tired one. Today that means a 2022 Toyota Hiace high-roof Super GL for groups and field teams, a 2025 BYD Sealion 05 SUV, a 2017 Hyundai Elantra sedan and a Toyota Yaris compact for city driving on a budget. Every vehicle is checked and cleaned before each handover, and photos on our website are of the actual cars you will drive.

Where to find us
Our vehicles are based at Fitawrari Damtew St, Addis Ababa 1000, Ethiopia, in the Kera area, with a team member on site to hand over keys and walk through the car with you. A permanent walk-in office at the same address is being fitted out; until it opens, bookings are handled on WhatsApp, Telegram, phone and email, around the clock.
